Overview
Vibess is a modern full-stack social networking platform designed to foster meaningful connections based on compatibility rather than appearance. Users create dynamic vibe profiles by sharing their interests, personality traits, moods, communication preferences, and activity patterns. A weighted recommendation engine intelligently matches users with compatible people, prioritizing connections within a 50 km radius to encourage local interactions, while expanding the search area when suitable matches aren't available.
Once two users mutually connect, a 24-hour conversation window is unlocked to encourage genuine interactions. During this period, an integrated Google Gemini AI assistant provides contextual icebreakers, conversation starters, jokes, and interactive mini-games to help eliminate awkward silences. If both users choose to continue after the 24-hour window, the conversation becomes permanent; otherwise, the chat automatically locks, creating a fresh and intentional networking experience.
Beyond matching, Vibess includes real-time group chats, personalized discovery feeds, instant notifications, friend management, and live activity updates powered by Socket.IO. The platform also introduces a Whisper feature for anonymously sharing thoughts and confessions with the community, alongside a Support feature that connects users with verified volunteer listeners who have opted in to provide emotional support and a safe space for conversations.
Built with Next.js, Node.js, MongoDB, Redis, and Socket.IO, Vibess was architected with a strong focus on scalability, real-time communication, intelligent matchmaking, and delivering a responsive, engaging user experience.

Challenges Faced
Challenge: Building an efficient matching algorithm, maintaining real-time synchronization across connected users, and optimizing API performance while handling dynamic updates. Solution: Designed a weighted matrix algorithm for compatibility, used Redis for caching and session state to reduce database load, and leveraged Socket.IO room-based event broadcasting to keep connections lightweight and synchronized.
